Potassium Nitrate: Fertigation, Food Grade and the High-Value Crop Connection

Potassium nitrate (KNO3) provides both potassium and nitrate nitrogen and is used primarily in drip fertigation for high-value crops including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and citrus. It is also used as a food additive (E252), in pyrotechnics and in specialty heat transfer salts. Israel and Jordan (Dead Sea minerals) and Chile (caliche deposits) are traditional producers, with China now a significant competitor.
